Building Information
Dajue liushi Hall (大覺六師殿), now destroyed, was the second major timber-frame structure on the central axis of Longxing Monastery. Originally built during the Northern Song dynasty's Yuanfeng reign period (1078-1085 CE), it suffered extensive damage in the early 20th century and was beyond repair by the time Liang Sicheng had visited in 1933.1
Research suggests that the hall was nine bays wide and six bays deep, with a width of 53 meters and a depth of 35 meters, which made it the largest building in the complex. Crowned by a single-eaves hip-gable roof (xieshan 歇山(or shaliangtou 厦兩頭), the hall was dedicated to the historical Buddha, Sakyamuni, and the six Buddhas that predated him: Vipasyin, Sikhin, Visvabhu, Krakucchanda, Kanakamuni, and Kasyapa.1
